Jennifer Goes to Korea 2- 제니퍼 한국가다 2

Hi, all!

I hope you have been waited for the story on "What I did in Korea" for the second time~! :)
My laziness (게으름) combined with lack of time created "No-posting-at-all" for two weeks. Ha ha ha.... :(                             


  Two weeks ago, I visited Kintex where many international/national conferences and exibitions are held. On the day when I visited (방문했다), "CAYAF (Contemporary Art & Young Artists Festival) 2012" with a theme, "Different Shapes and Colors- Looking through Today" (형형색색- 오늘을 읽다). Since it was a weekday, not many people were at the exibition hall.  In the middle of the hall, Artist Tae-Jin Sung held a workshop, "Differences between Korean and International Pop-Arts." It was very interesting (흥미로워요)~!



After the artist Sung's workshop, I walked around the hall filled with creativity (창의성) and ingenuity (독창성)~! Artwork on the left is made of wood (나무) painted with different colors. It represents "Personal Life" (사생활) - we need to understand (이해하다) and accept (받아들이다) that people are all different. 

 

 

 

It is insufficient (불충분하다) to define people (사람들) with their societal status and to acknowledge (인식하다) them as elements (구성원들) in a group pursuing the same goal (목적). This artwork seems that real people are standing on the street. Who would think of this idea?













 I don't remember what the artist wants to tell us about, but I liked this artwork. Robot (로봇) seems to be in a dry (삭막한) & cold (차가운) city (도시) where machines (기계들) are, but it seems to be hatched in the forest where full of living beings are. It seems to me that the robots are us living city life where we do same things over and over every day, but we were born in the nature (자연) and longing for going back.

Even if we are still robots out of cacoon (번데기), but then we can fly~! Maybe we hope to fly. :)

 Ooh I love hyperrealism (극사실주의) artwork. Some do not like it, but I like it because I feel like I am in the space (공간) where the artist was. When you read a novel with full of realistic descriptions, you feel that you are there. For me, hyperrealism gives me that illusion (착각).

You must be surprised with what material the artist used for this masterpiece. The artist drew mountains (산) with a pen on lottery tickets (복권)!  I don't know whether the artist bought them, collected them from his friends (친구들), or picked up from trash cans (쓰레기통) next to stores selling lottery tickets, but it was amazing (경이롭다).

The artist redefined "desire" as pure energy connects with something new, so "desire" connects to creativity (창조), productivity (생산), and dynamism (역동주의).

 The black waves are made of us. We are all competing against (경쟁하다) each other and tried to be better than others. But when you think you are on the top (정상), you try not to fall (떨어지다). If you fall down, you start over (시작하다) with a new group of people from the bottom. I don't know who the artist is, he depicted life so well in this.

 This artwork was exibited in the section, "Mixed Blood Myths (혼혈신화)."
Many artists in this section voiced that "Difference" could not be accepted in the collective society (집단주의 사회) in the past, and he treated accepting differences could only be happned in myths (신화).  But now, the artists want people to accept differences.

As soon as I arrived at Incheon International Airport (인천국제공항), I could see stylish interior of Incheon ariport and smell some delicious Korean food already. You know I like to eat.        ^ 0 ^ Haha.

Ohh~! I followed music. Suprisingly, there was an open music concert held on the stage in the center of the airport. I hope that Dulles airport has this type of music concert for the travelers who are bored enough with surfing the web with their cell phones. :)

First night, my family went to a diner for taxi drivers (기사식당) in Yang-Cheon dong in Seoul. We have diners for interstate truck drivers in the U.S., but Koreans have diners for taxi drivers. I have heard the food in 기사식당 is quite good and have gone 기사식당 for the first time, I was little excited.

My expectation was not ruined after all. I ordered kimchi stew 김치찌개- a spicy stew mixed with kimchi and 5-layer pork. 김치찌개 definitely boosts my energy after 14 hour almost-non-sleep airplane ride. \ ^ ^ /

 

 

Then I attended church service where I dozed off more than half of the time, then I went straight asleep~! Ooh...what a day.

Korean Class- Sitcom Reading & Filming

Hey all,

We are going to shoot a sitcom episode about "Cheating on a Test."
If you are interested in that, please shoot me an email (washingtoniyf@gmail.com) by 3PM tomorrow in order for me to send you the script for practice. The script includes pronunciation of each letter in Korean.  Anybody can participate in this sitcom reading. We are going to practice reading and acting first earlier than the class time (around 6PM), and shoot during the class time (8PM).

Tomorrow's class on November 20 is at Johnson Center, 3rd Floor, Room F, George Mason University, Fairfax Campus.

Korean Class- Making Japchae in 7 Minutes

7 분 잡채 만들기 ( Making Jap-Chae in 7 Minutes)

1. Prepare당면 (Sweet potato starch noodle) 150g, 쇠고기 (beef) 150g, 표고버섯 (shiitake mushroom) 3-4 개, 당근 (carrot) 70g, 양파 (onion) 2/3개, 시금치 (Spinach) 150g, 통깨 (sesame) , 계란 지단 (egg pancake)

2. Create sauce with ingredients- 간장 (soy sauce) 4T, 설탕 (sugar) 2.5T, 다진 파 (minced green onion) 2T, 다진 마늘 (minced garlic) 1T, 청주 (clear rice wine) 1T, 소금 (salt) 1/3t, 후추 (black pepper), 참기름 (sesame oil) 2T, 물 (water) 3T

3. Soak 당면 in the 물

4. Slice all vegetables in thin stripes.

5. Mix all sauce ingredients.

6. Put oil into wok or frying pan.

7. Hand mix 쇠고기 and 표고버섯 with 3 Table spoons of sauce. And spread that mixture in the wok or frying pan.

8.  Mix water soaked 당면 and 3 Table spoons of sauce. Then put that 당면 on the top of 쇠고기 and 표고버섯 in the pan

9. Put sliced 양파 and 당근on the top of 당면 in the pan. And sprinkle 1Table spoon of sauce evenly.

10. Put 시금치 on the top of 양파 and 당근. And then sprinkle the rest of sauce on the top.

11. Cover the lid on the wok or frying pan and put it on high heat. Once it is boiled, lower it to mid heat for 3 minutes. Then lower it to low heat for 4 minutes until there is almost no more soup left on the bottom. It is better to have a glass lid to easily check inside the pan. For these 7 minutes, keep watching the pan.

12. When you open the lid, you will see other ingredients are well cooked and 시금치 turns into bright green. Don’t wait until시금치 to turn its color to yellow.

13. Mix all together with 참기름, 통깨, 계란 지단. Season some 소금 and 후추 to suit your taste.

14. A Final tip for left over 잡채: Soak Vietnamese rice paper into the water à put left over 잡채 and rolls this into a spring roll shapeà put oil around the frying pan and grill the rolls. Yum~!!

Filming cancelled & Fall festival in Fairfax City

Hi everyone,

I hope you learn and have fun at my blogpost.
My entire film production crew planned to volunteer at "Fall for Fairfax" festival.
So it looks like I need to reschedule for filming Sitcom#2. And I initially said that we will post new sitcoms every week, but the film director rejected my idea with these reasons:

#1 His schedule is full
#2 I should have waited for uploading sitcoms until we film 5-6 episodes. How stupid I am :(

He recommends me to upload videos every 3 weeks. I hope you all understand this.

And on this Saturday, October 13, all IYF (International Youth Fellowship) will be at Fall Festival in Old Town Historic Fairfax. It will be open for public from 10 AM-5PM. Meet our KoreanClasswithJennifer crews and talk to you more on volunteer opportunities!
